Academic Programs
There are numerous programs undergraduates can be a part of that take place in Paris. Undergrads can study the language, civilization, or economics among other topics. Please click on the links below to view the details about each program.
- Paris
Program: Through Chicago's Paris Program, students in the
College live and study for an academic year in the glittering capital
of France, one of the world's great cultural centers.
- Autumn
Paris Program - Intensive French Language: The Autumn Paris
Program is for Chicago undergraduates who have taken elementary French
or who have comparable credit by examination. It is devoted to intensive
French language instruction at the intermediate level. Students receive
daily instruction in French and observe a no-English rule.
- Autumn
Paris Civilization Program - European Civilization in English:
The Autumn Paris Civilization Program, taught in English,
is devoted to a study of the history of Europe with particular emphasis
on France. This program features a number of excursions to sites of
historic and artistic interest both within and in the vicinity of Paris.
The French capital and its environs offer numerous opportunities to
connect readings, discussions, and lectures with the surviving monuments
of France's past.
- Autumn
Paris Civilization Program - European Civilization in French:
The core element of the College's Autumn Civilization Program in
Paris is a three-course sequence, compressed into the ten weeks of autumn
quarter and devoted to the history of Europe (with some emphasis on
France). The distinctive feature of this civilization sequence is that
all classroom discussions and readings are in French.
- Winter
Paris Program - Economics and the Social Sciences: The University
of Chicago's winter-quarter Paris Program is devoted to the social sciences
from a European perspective.
- Winter
Paris International Studies Program: The University
of Chicago's winter-quarter International Studies Program in Paris,
taught in English, provides students with an opportunity to consider
contemporary global issues from an international and regional perspective.
A mandatory lecture series presented by UNESCO personnel in Paris; will
deal with topics such as universal primary education, clean water, cultural
heritage in a globalizing world, and the digital divide between the
developed and developing world.
- Spring
Paris Program - Humanities: The College's Spring
Humanities Program in Paris provides students in the College with an
opportunity to devote themselves intensively to the humanities at the
University of Chicago Paris Center. Students, regardless of their major,
can pursue their interest in the humanities in the capital of France,
a city rich in cultural resources and artistic traditions. Courses are
taught in English.
- Spring
Paris Program - French Civilization: This program
offers a complete three-course European Civilization sequence with an
emphasis on France, compressed into the 10 weeks of the spring quarter.
English is the language of instruction.
- Spring
Paris Program - Mathematics: The College's spring-quarter
program in mathematics is designed for students with substantial preparation
in math and a desire to further their mathematical studies, intensively
and in the company of a small group of like-minded students, in Paris.
Courses are taught in English.
- Summer
Paris Program: The College's eight-week Summer Paris Program,
in the political and cultural capital of France, is devoted to intensive
French language instruction at an advanced level.
